Attractions The Rincón de la Vieja Volcano is the most visited National Park in Guanacaste. There are many reasons for this, but some of the main ones are: The Rincon de la Vieja Volcano is not really far away, from Liberia around 30 minutes; 50 minutes from the Papagayo Area and El Coco / Ocotal; 1,5 hours from Conchal, Flamingo and Potrero Area; and a little bit more than 2 hours from Tamarindo, Langosta, Avellanas and Hacienda Pinilla Area. You have big chances to see wildlife in the park and the sourroundings, from all types of birds, to monkeys, to racoons, and many other species... thats why many visitors, and specially birdwatchers come to the Rincon de la Vieja. Really nice trails, for all levels. In the Rincon de la Vieja National Park, you have from really easy trails for a short hike like Las Pailas Trail that takes you in a loop trail for 1.5 to 2 hours, where you can see secondary activity of the volcano, like fumalores and a baby volcano; and wildlife. It is posible to hike to secluded and pristine waterfalls like La Cangreja. This trail is 5 Km (one way) and you can do it easyly in 3 hours, but remember to include some extra time to swim in the deep blue pond at the base of La Cangreja Waterfall. If you prefer more strenous but regarding challenges, you can take the 8 Km (one way) hike all the way to the top of the Rincon de la Vieja. In this beautiful trail you could take from 5 to 10 hours, depending on fitness level, and you can see the Von Seebash, which is the highest part of the volcano, the active crater of the Rincon de la Vieja, you can see the Santa Maria Volcano on the distance, among many other things.
